The Human Impact Declaration

Engineering better digital experiences for people.

The digital world has become essential to modern life. Human Impact was established to bring discipline, accountability and continual improvement to the engineering of digital experiences.

Our purpose is not to dictate technologies. Our purpose is to establish principles.

§1

Purpose

Independent, measurable and transparent engineering standards.

Human Impact exists to improve the quality of the digital world through independent, measurable and transparent engineering standards.

Human Impact develops engineering standards that enable organizations to create digital experiences that are faster, more accessible, more sustainable and easier for both people and machines to understand.

The organization promotes objective measurement, open methodologies and continual improvement through standards that remain independent of any technology vendor, platform or commercial interest.

Human Impact believes that better engineering creates better digital experiences, and that better digital experiences benefit everyone.

§2

Vision

A trusted global reference for digital engineering.

To establish a globally recognized engineering standard for digital experiences that improves quality, accessibility, sustainability and long-term maintainability for everyone.

§3

Mission

Develop, measure, explain and continually improve.

To develop and maintain independent engineering standards, objective assessment methodologies and transparent certification programs that encourage continual improvement in digital experiences.

§4

Founding principles

The Human Impact Principles

These principles govern every standard, assessment and certification decision.

01

We will never chase trends. We will build standards.

Human Impact develops standards intended to remain relevant beyond individual technologies, frameworks and platforms.

02

Technology changes. Engineering principles endure.

Clarity, efficiency, maintainability, accessibility and transparency remain timeless.

03

Every requirement must have a reason.

Requirements shall be supported by evidence, measurable outcomes or demonstrated benefit.

04

Measure before you optimize.

Engineering decisions should be informed by objective measurement rather than assumption.

05

Simple is harder—and therefore better.

We value clarity, maintainability and long-term sustainability above unnecessary complexity.

06

Trust is earned through transparency.

Standards, methodologies and criteria should be understandable and independently verifiable.

07

People come before platforms.

Technology exists to serve people, not the other way around.

08

Independence above influence.

The integrity of the standard takes precedence over popularity, pressure or profit.

Founding commitment

We will never chase trends. We will build standards.
